The message of Islam is being drowned by extreme voices. In a frank discussion amongst scholars, Radical Middle Way brings together some of Islam’s most prominent names at a summit in the ancient city of Fez, to reiterate the orthodox message of Islam – that of mercy, peace, co-existence and justice. In this groundbreaking video the scholars help shed light on a question frequently posed: What is the Middle Way?

What is the “Middle Way”?

    democracy?  no thank you.

We need solutions in line with what the Four Imam’s brought us and the correct Islamic tradition which gives us the courage to see beyond the status quo and have a vision based on rules according to Quran and Sunnah rather than having an inferiority complex and feeling compelled to work within the current status quo. The blessed uprisings of the Arab spring have motivated many scholars to to see beyond the status quo but some people still want us to go back to living in the dark.

I agree with Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad. Scholars are indeed the heart of the Muslim Ummah. If there is a sickness then perhaps unfortunately it is caused by the glaring lack of scholars in Islam. I agree that the middle way is the way forward but would go one step further. Muslims should show compasssion and should help the oppressed, but should be aware that the media plays a large part in distorting the truth of this world so people believe, hold on to and  follow falsehoods. Opression to one person is liberation to another! For me the Radical Middle Way must be to  increase our knowledge of Allah in three basic areas; knowledge of his creation (science and technology), knowledge of his people (physchology and humanities) and knowledge of his concepts (philosophy and academia).  Pious, knowledgable Muslim scholars masters of the Shariah and Islamic sciences must be the same men and women who are the world’s unassaible fountains of knowledge in those key areas.  For Muslims do not divide religion and state and should also not divide tradition and modernity!
